Type Locality and Naming
The type section is at Xinling in Hulesi, Ningguo County, Anhui. The Xinling Fm was named by Qian Yiyuan et al. in 1964.
Synonym: (新岭组)
Lithology and Thickness
The formation is represented by grayish yellow, grayish green shale, sandy shale, siltstone and fine-grained sandstone. In the type area, the Xinling Fm is 344 m thick.

Lower contact
It rests conformably on the nodular argillaceous limestone of the Huangnigang Fm
Upper contact
It is conformably overlain by the siltstone of the Xiaxiang Fm

Fossils
This stratigraphic unit includes three zones, i.e., D. complexus zone, Aleptothecalis-A. venustus zone and D. mirus zone, in ascending order. The sandstone at the top is unfossiliferous, and probably represents the horizon above the D. mirus zone.
